Galaxy S22 not receiving text messages after September update

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (published September 27, 2022) follows:

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series has the premium look and feel that an Android user expects from a flagship device. With its three variants, the S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra, Samsung offers a price range.

While updates are designed to fix bugs and glitches and ensure devices work as expected, sometimes they can have the complete opposite effect.

Galaxy S22 not receiving SMS

This seems to be the case for many Samsung Galaxy S22 users as they are not receiving text messages on Verizon, T-Mobile and other carriers. However, the messages go through once they restart their phones (1,2,3,4,5,6).

Users say they stop receiving random text messages until they restart the device and then they are flooded with all the text messages at once after the restart.

This is worrying as some end up missing something crucial which may be urgent as they do not receive text messages.

According to multiple reports, this issue appears to affect all S22 models (S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra) after the September update and is not exclusive to any single carrier.

I have to reboot several times a day to make sure I haven’t missed any text messages. Also my phone keeps switching to mobile data because it thinks I have no internet even though it is still connected to wifi. No other appliance in the house has this problem. Restarting the router didn’t help.

Very recently with the new update I noticed that my phone would not receive text messages. I have no idea what happened, I didn’t change any settings or anything. The last time I received an update my phone was having issues with my mobile date. But I have not been able to figure out why I am not receiving SMS.

Apparently some S21 users are also facing this issue (1,2,3). For them, this is not the first time they have experienced this glitch; they also did it a few months ago.

@VerizonSupport since the last security update on my Galaxy S21 in September, I have an issue with not receiving text messages. I literally have to restart my device every few minutes because that’s the only way I could possibly receive text messages. Solve the problem or make peace

Unfortunately, generic troubleshooting steps like clearing cache and turning airplane mode on/off don’t seem to fix the problem.

Potential Workarounds

Among the reports, there are also possible workarounds that may alleviate the problem. If you’re on AT&T or T-Mobile, you may need to enable chat settings by following the steps in this link:

Samsung S22 Problem Workaround

Another potential workaround is to enable/disable the SIM card:

Go to the SIM card manager. Turn it off for a few seconds, then turn it back on. This fixed the RCS connected chat/text issue and many other quirks for me. I didn’t find the need to pull the sim card as it accomplishes the same thing and obviously much faster.

If any of the workarounds help you fix the issue with Samsung Galaxy S22 not receiving text messages, let us know in the comments below.

Update 1 (September 28, 2022)

9:30 p.m. (IST): For some strange reason, it seems Samsung mods are suppressing complaints about the issue on the official community forums.

But luckily, one person claims that a Samsung representative informed them that the problem will be fixed via a firmware update next week.

Samsung removed my thread which was about this same issue. Tons of comments and it just got deleted. Are you trying to hide how pathetic their developer’s response to this problem is? Don’t want people seeing all the customers ready to jump ship because their thousand dollar phones can’t receive messages? Samsung is a joke. Post your concerns on Reddit instead.

Side note, a rep told me earlier that the fix should be in the security patch next week. Don’t hold your breath. (Source)

Update 2 (September 29, 2022)

10:17 a.m. (IST): Samsung has started rolling out the October 2022 security patch for the Galaxy S22. Therefore, you can expect this update and see if it fixes the problem with text messages.

Update 3 (September 30, 2022)

11:17 a.m. (IST): The October 2022 security update is now available for Galaxy S22 locked by Verizon in the United States. So you can install it and see if the problem with the text message is fixed.
