2022-2023 MBA Admissions Events by School

Back to normal.

Back to reality.

Back to the grind.

The 2022-2023 recruitment carousel is launched. After two years of online recruiting with COVID, you’ll find adcoms and alumni out in force – whether it’s social media and panels, fairs and forums, or just coffees and lunches.

Exhibit A: The MBA Tour is running again. Next week, you’ll find dozens of schools in Boston, Atlanta, and DC, including Columbia Business School, London Business School, MIT Sloan, and Berkeley Haas. Here, candidates can meet in small groups with school representatives – or receive personalized advice on positioning their CV or preparing for the GMAT. Of course, there’s always time to network with adcoms and prospective students over food and drink.

PLAY THEIR STRENGTHS

This year, business schools will host a series of events, both in-person and online, with messaging targeted to diverse populations and concerns. How can applicants find out which business schools are doing what and when? To make this easy, P&Q provide a table (below) with a link to each program’s events page. This way, potential applicants can find out what’s happening online, on campus, and on the road throughout the year.

Indeed, each school’s list reflects their values and priorities. Take the Darden School at the University of Virginia. Renowned for teaching excellence, Darden organizes “office hours” so faculty can expose candidates to their teaching philosophies and ongoing research. Additionally, the school is scheduling “[email protected]” office hours, whose upcoming month’s guests include senior associate dean Yael Grushka-Cockayne and former Save the Children CEO Professor Carolyn Miles, who teaches school CEO leadership course.

Yale SOM, which prides itself on its deeply holistic approach, adopts a different tact. It will organize a series of application workshops specific to international regions, including Africa, China and India. At the same time, the school’s assistant dean and director of admissions, Bruce DelMonico, holds court with MBA applicants with his own version of “Office Hours.” And the school provides the same platform with its career services team. Additionally, Yale SOM is busy preparing for a series of events, including Women’s Leadership Weekend, PRIDE Weekend, and Veteran’s Symposium.

ACCESS TO EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE

Some programs lead with their programming. The Ross School at the University of Michigan has an enviable portfolio of experiential programs. Accordingly, Ross will host sessions on its student-led investment funds, its sustainability institute, and its entrepreneurship and venture capital resources and support. As the Michigan football team wins again, Ross even hosts tailgates for MBA candidates.

Indeed, you’ll find overlapping events at the schools: campus tours, Q&A sessions, student and alumni talks, and (of course) receptions. However, several programs also deviate from these standards. Harvard Business School, for example, will host an Industry Spotlight” to showcase its offerings in areas such as health, entrepreneurship and social impact. At Stanford GSB, you will find sessions dedicated to student partners. Northwestern Kellogg takes contestants to various clubs, with Asian Management and Veterans clubs being next. Let’s not forget Dartmouth Tuck, whose MBAs take applicants through their summers with their “internship paths.” If you weren’t selected last year at Tuck, their admissions team hasn’t forgotten about you. They are hosting a special session for new applicants later in July.
